One night a week or so ago, I suffered a bout of what I can only think must have been temporary insanity and signed up for the A to Z Spanking Blogging Challenge. Now, if you know me at all, you know I’m not a regular blogger. I post things occasionally at best. However, completing the blogging challenge means I have to write 26 posts during the month of June, one for each letter of the alphabet.
About 30 seconds after my moment of temporary insanity, panic hit. What the heck am I thinking? How am I ever going to do that? Fortunately, the rest of my brain caught up shortly thereafter and reminded me of all the bits and pieces I already have floating around on my hard drive.
You see, I’m a very weird writer. I don’t write in a straight line or in any kind of organized method at all, especially at the beginning. Once a piece reaches critical mass I generally stick with it until I get to the end, but I’m subject to have any number of things going at the same time. I really honestly believe my Muse has ADD. The harder I try to stick to one thing at the time, the less I actually get done. Trying to force it into order is counterproductive. Trust me, I’ve spent years trying. I write what I can see at a particular time… Or hear. As a consequence, it’s not unusual for me to have bits and pieces of lots of different stories floating around. At the moment, I think I have bits and pieces of five, but there may be more. I know there are at least that many.
So here’s my plan. I’m going to share some of these bits and pieces as my blog posts. Of course, that also means giving the basic premise for this story for which they are intended. So, you’ll get to see small glimpses of several things that I have in the works. However, you should keep in mind that these are just sketches, bits and pieces, like scrap fabric meant for a patchwork quilt. What I share here may or may not bear any resemblance to what it looks like once I finally get around to integrating it into a finished product. Also, just because this is the plan doesn’t mean there won’t be either detours along the way. (See above re: Muse with ADD)
If you’re brave enough to take a peek at the crazy inner workings of my creative process, welcome aboard. Hang on for the ride. Posts will begin on June 1.
