The Urban Dictionary defines man cave as “A room, space, corner or area of a dwelling that is specifically reserved for a male person to be in a solitary condition, away from the rest of the household in order to work, play, involve himself in certain hobbies, activities without interuption.”In Corbin’s Bend, the recreation area in the basement of the dome has reached legendary status as a man cave reserved for male residents of the community. Grant, like most men, is astonished to discover this supersecret area soon after he and Lainie move in.

Grant followed Matt into the Dome and down one of the long hallways. There was a doorway at the end of the hall. Matt opened it to reveal a descending staircase. Growing more curious by the minute, Grant followed him down. He reached the bottom of the stairs and stopped dead. The entire basement of the dome was one room decked out in the manner of a large recreation area. Only this area had clearly been designed with men in mind. There were multiple television screens on the walls and large leather couches and recliners scattered around
in seating areas. There were a couple pool tables and even a bar.

“Wow!” Grant said, stunned. “This wasn’t on the tour when we came before. I’m sure I would’ve remembered it if it were.”

Brent, who was sitting on one of the leather couches, turned and grinned at him. “We can’t give away all our secrets.”

“That’s right,” Jonathan, the executive assistant for the community, piped up from where he was perched on the arm of a chair in the group that had gathered around Brent. “We keep the outsiders away from the man cave and the paddles in the supply closet upstairs.” Jonathan flashed a cheeky grin and several of the men around him laughed. For a moment, Grant was too surprised to react, but eventually he joined in the laughter too. Jonathan was clearly joking. He had to be. Then again, thinking of the paddle they had received in their welcome basket, he might not be either.

“Man cave?” Grant asked.

Brent nodded. “That’s what Matt christened it when he first moved in. It fits. It’s our one place where we can just hang out and be men. Most of us spend a good bit of time down here, especially on the weekends during the summer when all the women and kids are at the pool.”

Learning-to-Live-Again-Final-200Tired of increasing chaos in his family life and the distance that is growing between him and his wife, Lainie, Grant Taylor decides the only way to save his marriage is to get back to the domestic discipline lifestyle he grew up with. When he finds Corbin’s Bend on the Internet, he is certain it is the perfect place for them to start over.

Exhausted and tired of juggling everything herself, Lainie reluctantly agrees to her husband’s suggestion. However, she is new to the lifestyle and more than a little uncertain about it. To make matters worse, their 15-year-old daughter Kathleen is convinced they had moved her into some kind of weird spanking cult. She is miserable and not at all shy about letting everybody know it.

Will moving to Corbin’s Bend be their saving grace, or will it be the final straw that tears them apart?
